Too often, 6wks or 9wks grades are the only measure students/parents consider for how much has been learned. Moreover, students with straight A's compared to a student with A's and B's may vary in college entrance exams by an entire quartile. The ideas presented in this session should help align assessment practices and grades to reflect the quality of retained learning rather than short term learning only. This session will focus on issues with assessment in middle and high grades mathematics classes by focusing on the question, "What balance in types and frequency of assessment provides students feedback and measures learning effectively over longer periods of time?" Performance-based assessments will be discussed. MB-S18255
