Participants will experience the elements of design thinking by walking through the process to redesign lessons to enhance student ownership. Participants will develop empathy, define issues or problems, ideate solutions, design and develop a prototype, and have the opportunity to test the prototype by receiving feedback. At the end of the session, participants will have the ability to use design thinking with their students and they will walk away with a lesson that fosters student ownership. MB-S18254

Technology Coordinator, Mountain Brook Jr High School
Suzan Brandt is the Technology Coordinator for Mountain Brook Junior High School. She began her career with Hoover City Schools in 1994 and served as an Instructional Technology Specialist from 2000-2009. Suzan has a B.A in Elementary Education from Auburn University and a M.A. in Special Education from The University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she also completed coursework for her Educational Leadership certificate. She earned an Ed.S in Educational Technology from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Suzan has worked in the area of special education and has taught Language Arts, Math, and Computer Applications. Suzan is actively involved in professional development and learning. She has presented at The Gulf Coast Writing Project, The Samford University Writing Project, ACTE Conference, EduCon, AETA, Tech & Learning Live, and the Alabama Educational Technology Conference.
